  1. Hey guys,

I just ran into your show about two weeks ago and started listening and I am now caught up to show 42 and waiting for 43. I have been enlisted in the US Navy for 8 years as an electronics technician and then made a career change to pursue my passion for audio. I attended the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences and then moved to Nashville and Interned at Primal Gear which repairs consoles and other audio for professional studios around the world. I do regret not getting the opportunity to be able to intern on a couple of real sessions in a studio but I’m working on contacting some studios just to see if I could give a hand. Anyway, I just wanted to say I love your show, I listen while I’m working my job now, RF electronics, and I write down many ideas you guys mention to try out when I get home. Oh and I was looking at a bigger interface with more inputs than my fast track pro and I had my eyes on the Profire 2626 but could not find a good review of it and then I run into Jon’s segment on it and it was the best in depth review I’ve heard so far…Thanks Jon. Thank you both for putting in so much hard work to make these podcasts happen, I love listening to them, and learn a ton.

Oh and one question, is there any way to use beat detective in pro tools to extract the groove of an audio kick drum, then apply that groove to a midi track/instrument track and then paste in kick drum notes on the midi track to replace the original kick track with drum sounds from EZ Drummer? I heard Jon mention APP Trigger or something, i couldn’t find it, but I was trying to do it without sound replacement software. Thank You.

    Robert

  2. Hi Robert, yes that is possible with Beat Detective with the groove extraction function. This will copy the timing of your selection to the groove clipboard.

Select your MIDI region, open the Event Quantize window and then choose groove clipboard as your quantize setting.

    I hope that helps.

See the user manual for more details.
